July 26, 2010: "Saul Grew More and More Powerful and Baffled the Jews" | | Scripture: Acts 9:19-22 | Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21All those who heard him were astonished and asked, "Isn't he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn't he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?" 22Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ | | Meditation: Once Paul's eyes were opened to the truth of Christ and God's plan and purpose for the world, at once, he began investing in the kingdom life. Those that saw this transformation in Paul, were baffled. Why is the life of a new Christian baffling? It is because the values have changed. We all live according to what we value. Some value money, power, fame, fortune, acknowledgment, acceptance, experience, philosophy, politics, and many other things. Our lives - the things we invest our time and energy on reflect that which we value. If we were to analyze where we spend out time, money and energy, it would more or less align with our values. What happens to the Christian is that their value set changes. They start valuing the things of the kingdom of God; investing in a relationship with God and serving the people that God loves. In short, their value set changes from things to God and people. Then their lives start to reflect the priority of God and not the priority of the world. When a person's values and their focus and dedication changes, people notice. This is what happened to Paul. He was busy killing the people of the Way, but once he found out the truth of God's love and purpose he started serving people by sharing the truth with others. The life of a Christian is really about continuously having our values change to be more aligned with God's priorities and values. Then we are living an ever more meaningful life because we are living a life consistent with God's purpose for creating us.
"Lord Jesus, is my value set changing every day in you? May I know your priority, your will and may I have the desire to do know and do what is truly valuable to you." |
